Amy Mantyka

About

Amy Mantyka is an award-winning director with over 12 years of experience crafting emotionally resonant and visually compelling work across commercials, music videos, and narrative film. Her style blends cinematic precision with deeply human storytelling, often rooted in performance, movement, and moments that feel real.

She co-founded the production company Play Creative, where she spent over a decade directing commercial and branded content for national and regional clients. As part of a small, collaborative team, Amy played a key role in shaping the creative voice of the company and leading dozens of campaigns from concept through post-production.

Now based in Toronto, Amy is available for hire as a director for commercials, music videos, short films, social content, and future feature films.

Recent accolades include:

  • The SGI commercial Love You Forever, which won Commercial of the Year at the 2024 Yorkton Film Festival

  • Megan Nash’s one-take music video Chew Quietly, which earned Amy the 2022 Video Director of the Year award at the Western Canadian Music Awards

  • Beau Nectar’s Buds, which received nominations for Video Director of the Year (Western Canadian Music Awards), Music Video of the Year (Capital Music Awards), and a Trille d’Or Award

Amy is an ACTRA member and currently serves as the ACTRA National Councillor representing Saskatchewan. Her background in dance, acting, and performance coaching informs her direction, making her a go-to for talent driven work that resonates.

She also has a strong foundation in comedy and improvisation, having trained and performed with an improv team for three years. Her comedic timing and instinctual understanding of rhythm and performance have made her a standout comedy director—an often under-recognized but essential skill in both commercial and narrative work.

In addition to directing, Amy is also a scriptwriter and offers writing and script editing services. She recently shadowed director/writer Lowell Dean on the feature film Die Alone, expanding her narrative directing knowledge and continuing her development toward long-form storytelling.

Please reach out if you’re looking for a director or a creative collaborator. With a wide range of experience and a deep understanding of story, performance, and production, Amy brings clarity, insight, and momentum to any team—whether as a director, writer, script editor, or creative partner. She is currently freelancing and open to meaningful collaborations in directing, acting, and writing.
